Moving Well

Motivation is what gets your started, but habit is what keeps you going!

We’re made to move

It's easy to neglect exercise when we're overextended because it requires time, energy and often a change of clothes and trip to the shower. It's daunting, messy and uncomfortable. But, everyday is an opportunity to get our heart pumping and our muscles moving. Our bodies are made for activity, and a sedentary lifestyle contributes to many health issues.

We should view exercise/activity like we do cleaning our teeth - you just do it everyday. It isn’t something that earns us a latte and a large muffin, rather we do it as part of our daily routine for our physical and mental wellbeing.

GET MOVING

It doesn’t have to be a gym class or a 10km run, it’s just about getting moving. It could be yoga, walking the dog, surfing, reducing sitting time, parking far away, walking meetings, golf, taking the stairs, boxing, coaching a sports team, swimming, rock climbing, or home work outs. But remember if it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you!

HOW COULD YOU GET MORE MOVEMENT INTO YOUR WEEK?

Try starting with SNACKTIVITY – wherever and whenever you have the opportunity, try to get a few extra minutes of movement into your day. Also, I highly recommend having short term goals as they help keep you on track and give you a sense of achievement along the way. And be sure to schedule in time for movement so it doesn’t take a back seat to the other pressing tasks in your week.
